Big Four Ice Caves with Jeff and Tristan
Washington Trails Association page for this hike
This was a great beginner hike for my young grandson Tristan. It’s only 2.2 miles round trip and mostly flat. The trail begins with a long boardwalk that lets you walk through a wetland and observe the wildlife.

The short trail is exceptionally well maintained, and the scenery—surrounding mountains and lush greenery—is beautiful.

We stopped for a break from the heat.

The mountain is massive, and so is the ice. We kept our distance because of the potential danger. Signs warn visitors to stay off the ice and never enter the caves.

We had a lunch break and spent a bunch of time throwing rocks.

The surrounding views are equally impressive. This photo was taken at the start of the hike back to the car.

There were lots of flowers like this.

Tristan enjoyed the hike back.

We got to experience the boardwalk again on the return trip. You can see from this picture how long and impressive it is.
